IPLA Global Forum in Borås 9-11 September

IPLA_50Delegates from all over the world will visit Borås next week and join the IPLA Global Forum with the theme “Sustainable Waste Management for the 21st Century Cities – Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities through Partnership”.

Waste Recovery International Partnership are very proud to announce that more than 200 people from 39 countries will have the opportunity to meet and discuss sustainability in Borås. The topics during the conference is Public Private Partership, Sustainable and resilient cities, Zero Waste, technologies, markets and jobs withing the waste management as well as international and regional cooperation.

The Forum is organized in collaboration with the City of Borås, Sweden; the Waste Recovery International Partnership in Borås; the University of Borås; SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden; Borås Energy and Environment; private sectors in Sweden; and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD).

The successful cooperation within the framework of Waste Recovery has resulted in an inquiry by theIPLA, the International Partnership for Expanding Waste Management Services of Local Authorities, to host its Global Forum on sustainable waste management for the 21st century cities in September 2013.IPLA, which is coordinated by the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), has a vision of helping cities and municipalities move towards resource efficient and zero waste societies, thereby ultimately achieving livable and sustainable cities, which coincides with Waste Recovery’s successful business model.

This opportunity will strengthen our work in Borås as a leading international reference city and provides a unique opportunity for businesses in the region to establish contacts with international actors who are facing major changes and investments in sustainable communities.

–          The conference will highlight Borås as a good example for zero waste cities, says Ulf Olsson, Mayor of the city ofBorås.

IPLA was launched during the nineteenth session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-19) inNew Yorkin May 2011.IPLAheld its first and second Global Forums in theRepublicofKoreain 2011 and 2012, and has now chosen Borås for hosting its Global Forum 2013. The meeting will be held in September 9-11 inTextileFashionCenter.

Over 100 participants from all over the world will come to the Forum including seminaries and field trips. In addition to sharing knowledge about waste management, the Forum is expected to promote thecapacity to develop various partnerships, both internationally and between the public and private sectors.

Organizers of the event are, along withIPLA, The city ofBorås, UNCRD, University College of Borås, SP Technical Research Institute and Borås Energy & Environment AB.

Waste to Value in Palu, Indonesia

In september a group from Borås and Waste Recovery visited the city of Palu in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. There are two projects ongoing concerning the waste in Palu. The “Waste to Value-project” aims to make the city aware of the waste as a valuable resource and to make a sustainable waste management plan for the future.

There is also a Demo Environment-project going on that is connected to Waste Recovery, there is built a landfill gas plant at the Kawatuna landfill located just outside Palu City. The gas plant will produce electricity to provide parts of Palu.
